Evening light effect on Chorleywood common

This painting was made outdoors during three consecutive painting sessions and is one of my favourite views from Chorleywood common. The late afternoon October sunlight back-lighting the trees, with smoke from a bonfire, gave a very atmospheric effect. The field on the other side of the Metropolitan line underpass was still in bright sunlight and gave a strong contrast against the smokeyness.
