Evening light effect on Chorleywood common
‘Evening fires’ depicts an evening light effect on Chorleywood common. It is an original oil painting made outdoors during three consecutive painting sessions. It is one of my favourite views from Chorleywood common. The late afternoon October sunlight back-lighting the trees, with smoke from a bonfire, gave a very atmospheric effect. The field on the other side of the Metropolitan line underpass was still in bright sunlight and gave a strong contrast against the smokeyness.
