‘Trafalgar Square No.13’ sanquine oil drawing on acid free cartridge paper

Sanguine drawings Trafalgar Square fountain

This is a sanguine oil pencil drawing from a series that I made in Trafalgar Square in London. I had very limited time available so I had to make the drawings in thirty minutes or less. My aim was to try and collect as much tonal information as possible, with a view to making larger drawings from them, or paintings, at a later date. There is a great deal of subject matter in Trafalgar Square. The people, the statues, the weather, the light and the Trafalgar Square fountains. The water adds another level of interest, and at midday a very striking contra jour lighting effect with the fountains.
