Mona Lisa magazine cover art
I painted this cover illustration for Sinclair QL World in the 1980’s. The magazine was running an article about the computer mouse being the new artist’s tool of choice ! I had a lot of fun painting this but only had four or five days to complete the commission. Thankfully I had a good printed copy of Leonardo’s painting – I didn’t have internet or even a personal computer back then ! I used Winsor and Newton alkyd paint on gesso primed water colour paper, which was 100% cotton rag. Alkyd was my medium of choice at the time because I could rely on it to dry completely overnight, and the flexible paper support could be wrapped around a drum laser-scanner for reproduction. Unfortunately I don’t have a copy of the printed magazine cover.
